Caring for Someone with Alzheimer's
Frequently Asked Questions
14. What role does nutrition play in
Alzheimer's disease? - cont'd
Some of the symptoms of Alzheimer's disease can be mimicked by
vitamin B12 deficiency. This nutrient deficiency is a reversible
cause of dementia, along with thiamine deficiency, thyroid hormone
deficiency, certain medications, and metabolic disturbances.
Reversible causes of dementia need to be excluded before a
presumptive diagnosis of Alzheimer's disease is made.
