11. What steps can I take to lose weight to
prevent type 2 diabetes?

If
you are overweight or obese, choose sensible ways to prevent or
delay the disease:

Avoid crash diets. Instead, eat foods that are low in fat, salt,
and sugar and high in fiber, such as dried beans and peas, fruits
and vegetables, and whole grains.

Increase your physical activity. Aim for at least 30 minutes of
exercise most days of the week. Check with your doctor before you
begin any exercise program.
