Frequently Asked Questions
11. Why is it important to know my family health history?
It's important to know if a family member has been diagnosed with a disease or condition since many are hereditary.
There are many eye diseases that can be inherited. For example, family history is a strong risk factor for both age-related macular degeneration (AMD) and glaucoma. These 2 diseases become much more common as we age. So, talk to your family about their eye health history. This will help you determine if you are at higher risk for developing an eye disease or condition.
