Lung Cancer

Frequently Asked Questions

8. Are there protective factors for lung cancer?

Yes, protective factors for lung cancer include

  • not smoking
  • quitting smoking
  • lowering exposure to workplace risk factors
  • lowering exposure to radon.

It is not clear if diet and physical activity decrease the risk of lung cancer. We do know from clinical trials that beta carotene supplements taken by nonsmokers and vitamin E supplements in general do not help prevent lung cancer.
