Bisphosphonates. Alendronate, risedronate, ibandronate, and
zoledronic acid are from a class of drugs called bisphosphonates
that slow bone loss, reduce fracture risk, and in some cases
increase bone density. These drugs decrease the activity of
bone-dissolving cells.
