Frequently Asked Questions
9. What genes are linked to Parkinson's
disease? - cont'd
Other genes linked to the disease include parkin, DJ-1, PINK1, and
LRRK2. Parkin, DJ-1, and PINK1 cause rare, early-onset forms of the
disease. LRRK2, which is translated into a protein called dardarin,
causes a late-onset form. Mutations in the LRRK2 gene are common in
people with Parkinson's in North Africa.
